Which Kitchen Appliances Are Still Made in the USA? Refrigerators, Ranges, Dishwashers, and More
Refrigerators, ranges, wall ovens, dishwashers, range hoods, and blenders: which ones are made in the United States, which are assembled here, and what each costs, appliance by appliance.

Most of the kitchen appliance market is built overseas, so the short answer to which appliances are still made in the USA is: fewer than you would hope, but more than you might think. The Made America directory lists five appliance brands. Below is every appliance type they cover, which ones are made here and which are assembled here, and the prices in our listings.
Made in USA vs. Assembled in USA
The difference matters more for appliances than for almost anything else, because a refrigerator or an oven is a box of components: compressors, controls, motors, glass. Under the Federal Trade Commission's standard, an unqualified Made in USA claim means all or virtually all of the product is made in the United States. Assembled in USA means the final substantial assembly happens here, while components can come from elsewhere. Every product we list carries one of those two labels, and we note which below.
American-made refrigerators
Three brands cover three different kinds of refrigerator. Sub-Zero, formed in 1945 in Madison, Wisconsin, builds the full-size built-ins: our listings include a 36-inch built-in French door smart refrigerator and a 48-inch built-in side-by-side, both marked manufactured in the USA (check a dealer for current pricing). Marvel Refrigeration, which traces its roots to 1892 in Greenville, Michigan, is the undercounter specialist: a 24-inch refrigerator at $1,649, a beverage center at $1,649, a wine refrigerator at $1,869, refrigerated drawers at $2,309, a built-in refrigerator-freezer at $3,149, and a built-in beer dispenser at $3,489, all marked manufactured in the USA.
Big Chill, the Boulder, Colorado company behind retro-styled appliances that it assembles in Iowa and Pennsylvania, lists the 24-inch Retro Slim Fridge at $3,795, the 33-inch Retro Original at $4,495, and the 30-inch Retropolitan at $4,995. These are marked Assembled in USA, so expect some imported components.
Ranges and wall ovens
For cooking, the Sub-Zero Group's Wolf line covers the most ground in our listings: a 36-inch freestanding dual fuel range, a 30-inch convection steam oven, and a 30-inch double smart electric wall oven, all marked manufactured in the USA. Big Chill's 30-inch Electric Wall Oven lists at $4,495 and is marked Assembled in USA. If you are matching a retro refrigerator, that is the oven built to go with it.
American-made dishwashers
Two dishwashers appear in the directory. The Sub-Zero Group's 24-inch fully integrated built-in smart dishwasher is marked manufactured in the USA and is designed to disappear behind a cabinet panel. Big Chill's 24-inch Retro Dishwasher lists at $1,895, matches its refrigerators in color, and is marked Assembled in USA.
Range hoods
Range hoods are the one appliance where a domestic maker offers real customization online. Haube Range Hood Co., launched in 2015 and based in Indiana, lists hoods in stainless steel, brass, copper, zinc, and enamel, from $3,938 for the Modern Box in stainless steel to $6,165 for the Dome in blue enamel, with the Sweep shape at $4,187 in stainless and $5,398 in brass. Every Haube hood we list is marked manufactured in the USA.
Blenders
Blendtec, inventor Tom Dickson's Utah company, is the small-appliance entry. The Total Blender Classic and Classic 575 list at $399.95, the Designer 650 S at $499.95, the Zakarian Pro at $599.95, and the Professional 800 at $799.95. Every Blendtec in our listings is marked Assembled in USA.
How to check an appliance before you buy
- Read the rating plate or spec sheet for the exact model number, not the brand's marketing page. Origin can differ between models in one line.
- Look for the exact words. Made in USA and Assembled in USA are different claims, and a label that says only Designed in USA makes no claim about where the product was built.
- Ask the dealer where the compressor (refrigerators) or the burners and controls (ranges) come from if full domestic sourcing matters to you.
- Keep the listing. If the claim on the box differs from the claim on the page you bought from, that difference is worth raising with the seller.
What the directory does not list yet
We do not currently list an American-made microwave, washer, dryer, or toaster, and we will not pad the list with brands we cannot back up. If you know a maker that builds one of these in the United States, tell us and we will review it for the directory.
Which to buy

Every product above, with its Made in USA or Assembled in USA marking and current price, is in the American-made appliances category of the directory. For the rest of the kitchen, the cookware and kitchen and tabletop categories list American makers of cast iron, knives, cutting boards, and dinnerware.
