Three brothers started the business in Michigan in 1956 before relocating to Winner, South Dakota, after studying ecological maps to find success in a new region. Today, the brand operates nearly 3,000 hives across about 1,000 square miles in South Central South Dakota and winters those hives in sunny California during the cold months.
